Sited in Dogern, Germany, the Research and Development Center contains offices for the furniture manufacturer Sedus Stoll. The primary design feature is a textile skin made of glass fiber fabric. It is suspended as the façade in two layers. Because the envelope is operable , the building undergoes a variety of guises depending on the time of day. Special aluminum adapter profiles were manufactured for attachment. The translucent membrane allows for the building to consume the least amount of energy possible in terms of heating and cooling.

 

The objective of this case study was to understand complex envelope wall systems and their attachments. Thorough knowledge of the system was necessary to produce both the drawings and model. To create an appropriate representationof the innovative membrane was ultimately the challenge
